AMSA-UAJ at IMSTC 2025: A Valuable Experience in a National Event

This year, the Asian Medical Students Association Universitas Atma Jaya (AMSA-UAJ) proudly participated in one of Indonesia’s most prestigious national events, the Indonesian Medical Students Training and Competition (IMSTC) 2025. The event was hosted by AMSA Universitas Indonesia, carrying the theme “REBORN: Unraveling Obstetrics and Gynecology Problems and Potential Approaches.” IMSTC 2025 was held offline for four days, from January 24 to January 27, 2025.

AMSA-UAJ was represented by Queen Elizabeth Toloh as Proxy, along with Airen Wang, Laurentia Valencia, and Joyceline Tanely as General Delegates. Additionally, Whitney Joycelyn and Jesslyn Vianesa competed as Academic Delegates.

IMSTC 2025 kicked off with a lively welcoming party, followed by inspiring sessions, including presentations from AMSA Indonesia and a talk show featuring representatives from the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Health. Participants also had the opportunity to gain insights from AMSA International. The first day was further enlivened by a live band performance and a bonding session with LO groups, fostering a friendly and enthusiastic atmosphere among attendees.

The second day began with an AMSC lecture titled Urban Health, providing new perspectives on urban healthcare challenges. Participants then engaged in an Interactive Case Study, which tested their critical thinking and problem-solving skills in medical scenarios. One of the day’s highlights was the academic competition, where delegates competed in various categories. Meanwhile, General Delegates had the opportunity to tour Universitas Indonesia, exploring different parts of the campus and experiencing its academic environment firsthand. This was a memorable and enjoyable experience, especially for those visiting UI for the first time. The second day concluded with a delightful Culinary Night, where participants indulged in a variety of delicious local dishes, strengthening bonds and creating cherished memories.

The third day brought a new set of experiences, including small class training and a mini advocacy simulation, which provided practical skills and insights. One of the most exciting activities was the district booth exhibition, where each district showcased its unique culture through decorations, traditional food, and costumes. In the evening, participants enjoyed cultural performances from each district, with every group delivering outstanding acts that were both entertaining and educational, highlighting the rich diversity of Indonesia.

On the final day, participants had the chance to engage in medical check-ups and health education programs for local communities in Jakarta. This was an invaluable experience for us as future doctors, allowing us to develop empathy and improve our communication skills with patients. The event wrapped up with a city tour, where participants explored various attractions in Jakarta, before gathering at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Indonesia Salemba for a heartfelt closing ceremony.

IMSTC 2025 was an unforgettable experience for AMSA-UAJ. It not only broadened our medical knowledge but also allowed us to connect with fellow students from universities across Indonesia. We deeply appreciate the efforts of the organizing committee and everyone who contributed to the success of this event.
